During the month of October, H&I Automotive will be participating in the Brakes For Breasts breast cancer awareness and fundraising program. Their collections will be donated to The Cleveland Clinic Breast Cancer Vaccine Research Fund.

B4B started in 2011 with a few shops in Ohio and has continued to grow ever since and now there are more than 100 shops nationwide that participate. So far, the program has collected over $600,000 for the clinic’s research!

Breast cancer effects roughly 1 in 8 women and 1 in 1000 men in the US. About 12% of those effected each year do not survive. The clinic is not only working on a cure, but also prevention and early detection of breast cancer.

How the program works:

  • Brake pads are donated by part supply vendors. Theirs are Factory Motor Parts.
  • The customer only pays for labor, associated parts, taxes and fees.
  • The participating shop donates 10% of the brake replacement revenue to the B4B program.

The goal for H&I Automotive is $1000 and they know, with the support of their customers and community, they should have no problem attaining it!

So if you or anyone you know are ready to have their brakes replaced, make an appointment with them today and we all win!

WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 18, 2018) – Teen drivers put everyone on the roadway at risk of a deadly crash, especially if they are bringing teen passengers along for the ride. New research from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that when a teen driver has only teen passengers in their vehicle, the fatality rate for all people involved in a crash increased 51 percent. In contrast, when older passengers (35 or older) ride with a teen driver, overall fatality rates in crashes decreased eight percent. Considering the increased risk created by a combination of teen drivers and teen passengers, AAA emphasizes the need for teen drivers to gain adequate supervised training, especially in different driving scenarios, before taking what could be a fatal drive.

In 2016, teen drivers were involved in more than 1 million police-reported crashes resulting in more than 3,200 deaths. Researchers pinpointed that when teens were carrying teen passengers, fatality rates jumped:

56 percent for occupants of other vehicles
45 percent for the teen driver
17 percent for pedestrians and cyclists

Two headlights are better than one: How changing headlights in pairs makes nighttime driving safer

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., Oct. 10, 2018 ---When it comes to vehicle maintenance, professional automotive technicians and organizations that promote safe driving have always advocated replacing certain safety components in their vehicles, such as tires, brakes, shocks and wiper blades, in pairs.

Replacing parts in pairs ensures that the vehicle is properly balanced and functioning safely. But it's not just tires, brakes and shocks that should be replaced in pairs. Vehicle lighting plays an integral role in keeping drivers and their passengers safe, and motorists should exercise the same level of caution regarding their vehicles' headlights, taillights, and turn signals that they do with other parts of their cars and trucks.

Why replace aging headlight bulbs?

Most drivers are not aware that headlight bulbs can wear out and degrade over time. As a result, headlights are often overlooked when drivers conduct routine vehicle maintenance. As they age, headlight bulbs put out less light, which can dramatically compromise visibility at night, when drivers' visual acuity is already naturally reduced by as much as 70 percent.

According to Lumileds, a leading lighting solutions company for the automotive industry, headlight bulbs begin to project significantly less light within two to three years of their initial installation, producing dimmer light outputs that can compromise the safety of drivers and their passengers.
